Bora Bora är den äldsta av Sällskapsöarna, sju miljoner år
sedan hon höjde sig i havet. Sedan dess har hon sjunkit och börjat bygga på
korallringen runt den gamla vulkanen. Innan européerna kom hit kallades ön för
Mai Te Para som betyder ”uppstigen från mörkret” eller ”skapad av gudarna”.
Bora Bora is the
oldest Society Island, seven millions years since she rose from the ocean.
Since then she has been sinking and building the coral reef around the old
volcano. Before the Europeans arrived the island had the name Mai Te Para,
which means “risen from darkness” or “created by the gods”.
Det kan väl inte vara den krympande storleken på ön som
påverkar hur frukten ser ut, men det var i alla fall här på Bora som vi
plockade de allra minsta bananerna och citronerna. Att vi var bortskämda med stora frukter från Tahaa kan väl inte vara den enda förklaringen till att vi tyckte att Boras frukter var små?
Don´t think that it is the shrinking size of
the island that affects the size of the fruit, but in Bora we picked the
tiniest bananas and lemons. That we were spoiled from the fruit in Tahaa
couldn´t be the only explanation?
Inte för att Bora sjunker speciellt snabbt men de pyttesmå
snäckorna kämpade alla för att vara högst upp och herre på täppan. Det lär nog
dröja ytterligare en 30 miljoner år innan hon har sjunkit helt och bara har
korallrevet kvar som atollerna i Tuamotus. Men träning kan vara bra, så heja!
Not that Bora is sinking rapidly but the small
shells all climbed each other and tried to be on top the world and rule the roost.
It will probably take another 30 million years before she is completely sunken
and only has the coral reef like the atolls in Tuamotus. Training
is good though, so well done!
Vi försökte provköra den gamla, otroligt miljögröna, bilen…
Men vad driver den? Den startade inte. Vi
fick gå upp på berget istället. Väl uppe fick vi den allra vackraste utsikten.
We also tried to drive the old, incredibly eco-friendly,
green car…. But what runs it? We couldn´t start it, so we had to walk the mountain
instead. Once we got to one of the tops we got the most beautiful view.
