Huahine Nui, stora Huahine, och lilla staden Fare blev vårt
nästa stop. Vi kom dit när förberedelserna inför den stora paddeltävlingen Hawaiki
International förbereddes som bäst och fick nästan känslan av att det faktiskt
är en liten stad. Vi hyrde vespor och körde runt båda öarna, på alla vägar vi
kunde hitta, och fick uppleva gröna Huahine från land. Det blev besök på gamla
maraes, möte med de heliga blåögda ålarna och med vänliga huahinebor, en supergod
lunch med lokala färska räkor på södra sidan av Iti och så lite
papayaplockning.
Huahine Nui, Big Huahine, and the small town
Fare was our next stop. We got there in time for the preparations for the big
paddle competition; Hawaiki International, and that almost made the small town
to a town. We rented scooters and drove around both islands, on all the roads
that we could find, and really experienced the green island. We visited old
maraes, met the holy blue-eyed eels and friendly people, we got superb lunch, local fresh prawns, on the southern side of
Iti, and we picked some papaya.
